Christmas has come early for me!
Just this afternoon my package arrived from our favorite Black Swan.
Now, I no longer have to envy Hesh, or Craig, or anyone else for that matter. I have in my possession my very own Tiger Myrtle, and I could not be happier.

You will pardon me if I brag a bit? This is my first order from Tim, and he has treated me like a king.

Look how well it came packed:

It was wrapped, and wrapped again in plastic and duct tape. If the cargo plane had gone down over some ocean somewhere, no doubt the package would have washed up ashore safely for some castaway to build a fine guitar. (Or cook dinner, whichever seemed more important.)

Notice the free pen that Tim packed along with the wood.

So here's the goods:

And closer:

And the back, closer still:

I've discovered that it is quite difficult to properly photograph wood. These shots are close to true color. But Tim's photos are dead on, so that I was not surprised at all when the packagage arrived.

As my surfer roomate used to say, I'm stoked, and am looking forward to building this guitar. I do believe that this one's for me.

Again, kudos to Tim! Thanks so much from half way 'round the world, mate!

Steve

Congrats Steve,

Beautiful look'in set there. Now that you have the Tiger by the tail, what other tonewood would you compare it to in regard to tap tone? Hope you will share the build with us as I really do admire your work very much.

So, have you decided just what it is going to be mate??

Don't dare tell me a uke

Cheers

Kim

Love it Steve !

Yep , Tim's packaging is legendary. Took me a good half hour to undo mine .
What's the plan with this one ?

Tim, you better get back down to Tasmania and start hunting some more of this delectable and illusive wood.

Craig

Ok, let's see--

1st, what am I going to make? I was thinking uke, until Kim objected. So perhaps a wood-topped banjo?

2nd, how does it "tap"? That's always a tough one for me. It is deeper throated than mahog, but not glassy like rosewood. Someone (perhaps Hesh?) said it has a lot of sustain, and indeed this piece does. It just holds on to a note!
In evaluating tonewoods, most everyone says that *piece X* is between mahog and rosewood, which is almost like saying that squirrel tastes like chicken. So if you've got a lot of woods falling into that category, then what? I'll take a stab at woods that are in the middle: Walnut sounds woodier to me. (I know, don't throw your keypads at me.) Maple sounds thinner. Koa sounds like chicken. No, wait... it tastes like chicken. Tas Tiger Myrtle sounds beefier. Sounds lower-pitched. It sounds like a Harley next to a Norton. How's that???

And 3rd, Kim, thank you for your kind remark. And yes, I do plan on chronicling this build. I hope to have more and better-formed opinions as we go!

Steve

Wow, that's some gorgeous zoot!

I'm looking forward to seeing you turn that into a fantastic guitar!

Thanks, Alain!
This stuff really is amazing...I've never seen anything like it. The color--and figure--is unlike any other set that I've got.
I'll NEVER part with my Norton!
I hear ya, Mike. If I had a Norton, I'd feel the same way. Good for you!
Now, that's how I feel about this Tiger Myrtle.
